FACING THE CAMERA: Ontario College of Art & Design University (2016)

Stan Williams

The 38 portraits from this session were taken at Ontario College of Art and Design University (OCAD U), Toronto, Ontario, Canada in October of 2016 during my participation in the NIGIG Artist-in-Residence program.

FROM OCAD U:

From October 3-7, Indigenous Visual Culture’s NIGIG Artist-in-Residence Rosalie Favell will present a curated selection of images taken during her residency at OCAD U. The new portraits on display will be of arts + culture professionals who participated in the three OCAD U/Toronto FACING the CAMERA portrait sessions.

FACING the CAMERA will be on display from October 3-7 in the Ada Slaight Student Gallery at OCAD U. A small, intimate reception will take place on Wednesday October 5 from 5:00-7:00pm. Rosalie will provide a brief artist talk on the series and respond to guest questions. Light refreshments provided.

About FACING the CAMERA: FACING the CAMERA is an ever-growing national and international visual document of the Indigenous arts community. Using the portrait session as a performance space, Rosalie encourages individuals to express personal experience and history with the context of tradition and communal values. (read more)
